Following England’s early exit from the World Cup, Robert Peston, the BBC’s Business Editor, poses the question in his blog, ‘How damaged is England’s football brand’. Adrian Day posted the following thoughts:
There's actually a number of brands involved here: the England football team, the English FA and of course the individual player brands. The England football brand has certainly been tarnished over the past month, but fans are very emotionally attached to the brand. A few changes to the team, a few good wins and the brand will bounce back strongly. The FA itself has different issues, and many will feel sympathy for Richard Caborn’s assertion that the body is not fit for purpose. And the player brands will continue to wax, wane and then wax again - remember how the Beckham brand has bounced back in the past!
It’s perhaps also worth mentioning that the 'England fan' brand has enhanced its reputation following the great support and good behaviour in South Africa. To view our Fanbrand WorldCup contenders please visit http://bit.ly/fanbrand.
